ABOUT MOLHO
Molho is the work of director Marcelo Altino Garcia.
Marcelo's work has built prestige as being inventive and experimental producing work for film titles, short films, and commercials. Molho is probably best known for its award-winning international music festival commercial Virtuosi, the short film Max Haus, along with the work done with Darren Aronofsky, Hi-Res!, and Focus Features.
The studio is currently working on a wide gamma of projects that encompasses a new campaign for the festival Virtuosi, a performance piece using a live orchestra and 11 projectors, the set and costume design for an opera premiering in December, an "animal manifesto" with the support from PETA, and a music video commissioned by Bell Orchestre, Arcade Fire's instrumental side-project.
Molho has been featured on hundreds of blogs and numerous international publications. It is based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ABOUT MARCELO ALTINO GARCIA
Marcelo is a director, graphic artist, and musician living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2007, Marcelo founded Molho, specializing in commercial and experimental projects using different medias.
Having grown up in a family of classical musicians in Brazil, at the age of 13, Marcelo moved to Boston to pursue a music career. At 17, he attended the New England Conservatory of Music on a full scholarship award where he met, recorded, and toured the world with some of his musical heroes while simultaneously designing his own flyers and album covers. After doing the live premiere worldwide of the “Concerto for Six-string Electric Bass and Orchestra” by NYC composer Jeff Beal, Marcelo began to merge visuals and music in his work.
In 2000, he won the prestigious ApArtes Scholarship Award in Brazil to pursue his BFA in Graphic Design at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. His personal work as a student began to draw attention of the creative community. Interviews and features were published in magazines like Novum, Abitare, Page, Rojo, CMYK, and books by DGV. He had also won the 2000 Rachmaninoff Music Festival Poster Competition, the Red Bull E= Award, an unpursued one-year residence at Benetton’s experimental communication center Fabrica, and took part in collective exhibits at the Museu de Arte Moderna in Recife, Brazil, and at the William Turner Gallery and Williamson Gallery, both in California.
As a director and designer, Marcelo has worked on a vast array of visual projects. In 2006, while at Lobo, he directed the first global campaign for Dupont, winner of several awards, designed the Fall 2006 Collection for Diesel, the motion style guide for iconic advertising for Coca-Cola Worldwide, and a campaign for Hewlett-Packard, USA. Marcelo Garcia’s image-work makes use of animation, graphics, and live action. His video and print campaign for the Virtuosi International Music Festival was included in the Promax/BDA State of Design Show and earned him a 2007 Best Experimental Video Director of the Year Award at the Inspire Symposium. His recent commercial efforts include the motion identity for Darren Aronofsky’s production company Protozoa, the launch of the new Fiat Linea in Brazil, the film titles for “Ball’s Out” and “Sin Nombre”, the cover of the “Motion Graphics Special” for Boards Magazine, and the promo for UK fashion designers Blaak’s Fall 2008 collection.
